1. Is the trust stage vital if it can never be final in its conclusion as it will be betrayed and treated as trivial?
2. Steiner mentions that the act of translators incarnate alternative energies and resources of feelings that they become marred and lame by what they have imported and their vein of creativity goes dry. Do you agree with Steiner why or why not?
3. The hermeneutic motion is made up of three stages but is lacking a fourth stage that makes it complete. What do you think the fourth stage should be to make the cycle complete? Do you agree with the author idea of the fourth stage and how the hermeneutic cycle is incomplete?

ReplyDelete2. I don't really understand what Steiner means here. I don't understand how Steiner seems to believe that there may be a scenario in which the translator is so engulfed in their work that they become incapable of thinking creatively.
3. I really don't understand this enough to say. I don't even really understand why he feels that the process is incomplete with three stages.
1. I think the trust stage is vital. Without trust, the translator will not able to (or feel too guilty to) translate the text exactly how he/she thinks it should be translated.
ReplyDelete2. I think the vein of creativity will go dry if there is not enough importations. If the translators do not have the freedom to change the original text to some degree, their creativity vein will eventually run dry.
3. I am not sure, but it's hard to tell what a "perfect" translation really is and the steps needed to achieve it.
